Summer fun with Integrity!

As usual, our monthly gathering at MJ's Tavern in Norfolk was  tremendous fun - great food, lots of laughter and some good work too. Check it out...

OBX Pride Fest:
The Outer Banks Pride Fest is June 15-18. In light of the recent vote on NC’s Amendment 1, Integrity members feel it would be a good thing to show support of the NC LGBT community by attending this year’s Pride Fest. Jesse Woods will coordinate a group to travel to Pride Fest for a day trip. If you are interested in attending, contact him at jessewoods3@msn.com.

Integrity day at Busch Gardens:
Integrity is planning a day at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg on Saturday, July 21. We hope to have a large group and that everyone will wear an Integrity t-shirt. We’ll have fun and, hopefully, spread the word about Integrity while we’re doing it. If you would like to attend, please contact Jesse Woods, jessewoods3@msn.com.

Croc's Drag Brunch:
We will plan an Integrity trip to the Croc’s Drag Brunch in Virginia Beach for early this fall. More details coming soon!

Film screening at ODU Canterbury Center

The ODU Canterbury Center, 1526 W. 49th Street in Norfolk, will host a screening of the film Inlaws & Outlaws on Thursday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. The screening is free and open to the public.

Inlaws & Outlaws cleverly weaves together the true stories of couples and singles— both gay and straight — and all into a collective narrative that is as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.

At the top of the film, you meet real people one on one. You don’t know who’s gay or straight or who’s with whom. As their stories unfold and stereotypes fall by the wayside, you won’t care because you’ll be rooting for everybody. With candor, good humor, great music and real heart, Inlaws & Outlaws gets past all the rhetoric to embrace what we have in common:

We love.

"Currently heated discussion of gay marriage makes the cool-headed 'Inlaws and Outlaws' a timely examination of the nature of marriage, whether straight or gay ..." says Ken Eisner of Variety.

The screening is co-hosted by Integrity Virginia Beach Chapter and funded by a grant from Integrity USA.

For more information contact Integrity Virginia Beach Chapter, integrityvb@gmail.com or the ODU Canterbury Center, 757-489-9096.

Highlights from our March business meeting

Our March business meeting was very productive and we've got some great upcoming events. Our next meeting will NOT be at Talbot Hall. Rather, on April 17 we will gather at MJ's Tavern (4019 Granby Street, Norfolk) for dinner at 6 p.m. and our meeting will begin at  7 p.m. Please feel free to join us for dinner even if you can't stay for the meeting!

“Inlaws & Outlaws” film screenings:
Thanks to grant funding from Integrity USA, we will be holding two screenings of the film “Inlaws & Outlaws” in our diocese. After much discussion, the Board decided to contact our Canterbury organizations (college ministry) and to partner with them for these events. One screening will be held at the ODU Canterbury Center and the other at the William & Mary Canterbury Center. Convenor David Price is working closely with the Rev. Gillian Barr (ODU chaplain) and the Rev. John Kerr (W&M chaplain) to confirm details for these events. We anticipate late April – early May. This is an important contribution to the conversation around LGBT inclusion that has finally begun in our diocese. If you would like to participate in this project, please contact David Price at integrityvb@gmail.com. You can learn more about the film at http://www.inlawsandoutlawsfilm.com/.

Integrity Board elections for 2012-2013
Elections for our Board of Directors will be held at our April 17 meeting. We will be electing a new Convenor and three board members. The positions of Secretary and Treasurer will also be elected. This is an important time in the life of our diocese and our progress towards full inclusion. Please prayerfully consider if God is calling you to serve Integrity and our diocese in this capacity. Please contact convenor David Price (integrityvb@gmail.com) for more information. Please note that you do not have to be an Episcopalian to serve on the board. You do, however, have to be an Episcopalian to serve as Convenor of the chapter.

General Convention Volunteer
Our Board member Susan Pederson has applied to be an Integrity USA volunteer at the 77th General Convention of The Episcopal Church in Indianapolis, IN July 5-12, 2012. Integrity USA will provide lodging and a stipend toward travel and food expenses. Integrity Virginia Beach will pay for expenses not covered by the stipend. We are very grateful to Susan for her willingness to serve and to represent our chapter and province in this important work. Please hold Susan and the leadership of Integrity USA in your prayers as they select the volunteer corps for General Convention.
